Streetside Ah Mi Base Initiative — Jamaica
In 1997, renowned dancehall artist Red Rat released the song “Nut Live Nut Weh” on his debut album Oh No… It’s Red Rat. The song was inspired by the harsh realities faced by children living on the streets—capturing themes of survival, resilience, and hope through music that resonated deeply with audiences.
The message of Nut Live Nut Weh is profoundly personal. At just 12 years old, Red Rat was left without the support of either parent and was forced to navigate life on the streets of Jamaica at a young age. Those formative experiences shaped not only his music, but his lifelong commitment to helping vulnerable youth who face similar circumstances.
Out of this lived experience, Red Rat established the Streetside Ah Mi Base Initiative—a grassroots effort dedicated to supporting disadvantaged and street-involved children. The initiative focuses on providing guidance, resources, and pathways forward for youth who lack stable support systems, helping them move away from street life toward safety, opportunity, and purpose.
To strengthen and expand this work, the initiative partners with Jamaica Relief Ministries (www.jamaicarm.org), a trusted organization with a long-standing presence in community outreach and youth support across Jamaica. Together, they work to create meaningful interventions that offer children not just short-term relief, but a real chance at a better future.
This project reflects the Laudimont Foundation’s belief that lived experience, compassion, and collaboration can transform hardship into hope—and ensure that no child is forgotten.
How Donations Help
Donations to the Streetside Ah Mi Base Initiative directly support programs designed to improve the lives of vulnerable and street-involved children in Jamaica. Contributions are used to fund practical, on-the-ground interventions that address both immediate needs and long-term stability.
Donor support helps provide:
Basic necessities, including meals, clothing, and hygiene supplies for children living in unstable conditions
Safe spaces and outreach programs that offer protection, mentorship, and guidance away from street life
Educational support and life-skills development, helping children build pathways toward independence and opportunity
Community-based services delivered in partnership with Jamaica Relief Ministries, ensuring culturally informed and sustainable impact
Through strategic partnerships and responsible stewardship, donations are directed where they are most effective—supporting children who are at risk while strengthening local organizations already serving these communities.
By contributing to this initiative, donors play a critical role in transforming hardship into opportunity and creating measurable, long-term outcomes for children who would otherwise be left without support.
