Matthew Rusike Children’s Home

Harare, Zimbabwe

In 2011–2012, artists Pascalli and Red Rat first visited the Matthew Rusike Children’s Home after being invited to perform in Zimbabwe for their hit songs “Rise Up Zimbabwe” and “Never Give Up Zimbabwe.” What began as a cultural exchange quickly became a life-changing experience. Through time spent with the children and communities, they gained a deeper understanding of the country’s challenges, resilience, and spirit—and felt compelled to give back in a meaningful way.

During their visit, they learned that many of the children had been rescued from extremely vulnerable circumstances. Some were living with medical challenges, trauma, or loss. Yet despite their hardships, the children displayed extraordinary warmth, strength, and a profound respect for education. Their optimism and determination left a lasting impression and became the foundation of Laudimont’s long-term commitment to this project.

The Matthew Rusike Children’s Home Childcare initiative was inspired by the work of the late Reverend Matthew Jacha Rusike, a devoted member of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. Rev. Rusike dedicated his life to caring for less-privileged children, often taking them in personally as he moved between church appointments in circuits such as Makwiro and Kwenda. His tireless efforts led the church to establish a permanent residential care facility for orphaned and vulnerable children in Epworth, approximately 15 kilometers east of Harare, in 1960. Rev. Rusike was appointed to lead this work, and the facility was officially registered in 1968 (PVO 463/68).

What began as one man’s vision has grown into one of the largest child welfare organizations in Zimbabwe. Today, the Matthew Rusike Children’s Home provides residential care for over 100 children, while supporting approximately 1,000 children through community-based orphan care programs. The organization employs a dedicated team of 36 staff members and has expanded its services across multiple districts through decentralized home- and community-based care initiatives.

In addition to residential care, the organization now operates Community Resource Centres, ensuring children in need have access to education support, essential services, and a safe environment to grow and thrive.

The Laudimont Foundation is honored to support the Matthew Rusike Children’s Home—an institution rooted in compassion, legacy, and measurable impact. Together, we help ensure that vulnerable children are not only protected, but empowered with the tools, education, and care needed to build a better future.
